Our Story
GraceSigns, founded by Valerie R. Carter is a non-profit organization with a mission of making sign language apps. The inspiration stemmed from Valerie's daughter Grace who has Down syndrome and Apraxia. As a young child, Grace could not express herself. She would often come home from school unable to talk about her day. Valerie and Grace were both equally frustrated by their lack of communication and so they began to learn sign language. It was a huge breakthrough. Finally they were able communicate! Valerie decided to make the learning of American Sign Language (ASL) easier and more accessible for others by creating easy-to-use apps.
Sign Me A Story was released in 2013. This was followed by the launch of Sign Me ABCs in 2018. Sign Me A Sentence was released in October 2020. All apps are completely free, with no in-app-purchases, no advertising and no internet access.
